Virtual Leadership Development

Can we successfully lead organisational transformation 100% virtually? Yes, we can!

Our client enlisted the support of Enabling Change during the pandemic to provide virtual leadership development across their Global Leadership Team.

Below, we detail our 5-step approach to engaging and developing this highly skilled yet insufficiently aligned team via a series of 1:1 interviews, exercises and workshops delivered virtually over the space of 2 months.

Step 1: One team, several voices, week 1-2 / 60 min 1:1 interviews

We used interviews to assess the starting point and expectations from the collaboration.

Output: Everyone was heard and could contribute to the process going forward.

Step 2: Our starting point, week 3, 3h virtual workshop

We aimed to move from individual starting points to a shared starting point through aligned expectations and purpose.

Output: A shared starting point for the leadership team; clear Rules of Engagement

Step 3A: Shared purpose & expectations, week 5, 3h virtual workshop (exercises and homework)

We worked to move from group to team by aligning purpose and individual roles.

Output: One-page ‘R&D Northern star’, Leadership Team Mandate

Step 3B: Shared purpose & expectations, week 7, 4h virtual workshop

We aimed to align expectations and to define purpose, responsibilities, contribution, and need for support for and from all Leadership team roles.

Output: Purpose, contribution, and responsibilities for each Leadership Team role

Step 4: From dialogue to everyday business as usual, week 9, 3h virtual workshop

We set off to agree governance and ground rules around the Leadership Team.

Output:

  • Ground rules for the Leadership Team collaboration

  • Implementation plan for the Leadership Team structure

  • Agreement of individual commitment to shared Leadership Team success

This is the feedback we received at the end of these two months:
